Revs. Bob and Susan Ryder, Co-Pastors

Bob and Susan came to New Covenant Community (NCC) in August of 1997.  They were both ordained by the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1989, and have dual ordination standing in the United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). 

Bob was born and raised in Northern New Jersey. He attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA and Princeton Theological Seminary.  Susan was born and raised in Southern California, and attended California State University at Long Beach and Princeton Theological Seminary.  They met in seminary, married on New Year’s Eve in 1986, and graduated from seminary in 1988.  They have no children – but share their home with their beloved Yellow Lab, Kayla.  In their time off they enjoy camping on the beach in South Carolina, camping and river rafting in Utah, reading, going to movies, and canoeing local rivers.

Prior to coming to NCC, Bob served as a chaplain resident at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.  He also served two pastorates in Iowa, and has completed two units of Clinical Pastoral Education.  Susan served as an Associate Pastor in Sioux City, Iowa for six years, and taught at Morningside College in Sioux City as an Adjunct Professor of Religion.  She was also a chaplain at Siouxland Regional Cancer Center for two years.

In addition to her role with NCC, Susan also serves as Campus Minister for the United Campus Christian Foundation at Illinois State University.  And for nine months of each year, Bob's "other job" is as a groundskeeper at a Bloomington golf course.
